Tripping with Shpongle, can anyone relate to this?
    #4720779 - 09/27/05 05:46 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

Alright...so I just got into Shpongle. Yesterday was my first time listening to it while tripping.

I listened to them for a couple weeks sober, but when I was tripping, it was fucking intense.

I was only on 1.5g of shrooms, but I did like 36 whippits in a two-hour span. I was under my covers with Shpongle blaring.

Now...I have some questions. Does Shpongle put in subliminal parts that you are only really aware of tripping?

I swear there was this one song that sounded like two entities talking to each other (but not in words). Then it was as if the music visualized into these two entities playing catch. THEN at the END of the song, it was like a big joke, and the entity on the right (closest to me) dropped whatever they were playing catch with on my face. The beat even sounded like the words "I dropped it" or "it threw up" or something like that. I just can't remember.

There was also a point where I was learning these lessons in rapid succession due to the nitrous, but it all stopped on a perfect note when this one song ended...

I COULD NOT tell whether this stuff was me tripping out, or the music being subliminally programmed for tripping. It was SO BIZZARE.

Anyone know a lot about this or relate at all?

These were the songs they could have been...

Head Feels like Frisbee
Dorset Perception
DMT
New Way Say Hooray
Behind Closed Eyelids
Herb Garden
Shiva Space Tech.
Botanical Demensions
Levitation Nation
Around the world in a tea daze
Turn up the silence.

These were the tracks on my trip playlist. If anyone knows of any parts that sound like something completely different or subliminal in these tracks, let me know.

If this is the wrong forum, go ahead and move it. I just felt like this was the right forum cuz it involves tripping...to the music.

It wouldn't suprise me. Shpongle has a way of making music complex in a way that you don't realize until you hear it mentally altered. I've never heard something as complex as what you've just described, but now that you have I kinda wanna trip and try it out!

LoL...I attribute a lot of it to the nitrous. But I kept getting this sense that I was getting information/visuals from the music.

Oh, but you ARE getting information/visuals from the music.  That's the beauty of Shpongle, it assaults your tripped mind with more information that its used to getting from normal music, and your brain interprets it as absolute craziness like you just described.

Of course, nitrous probably helped a bit.

Yes nitrous does change the sound of music. I have never found that shrooms had the same effect (though it does make music a lot more interesting and clear).

I can't really relate to it sounding different/hidden messages, but on one occasion time slowed down for a long time during a song. Now whenever I listen to that part of that song I get the same feeling like time is slowly going by.

I really like shpongle while tripping. You just can't go wrong with it. Also you probably know this but if you're huffing a lot you should take vitamins (I think B12) since nitrous depletes it.

Dorset Perception gave me very much the same idea. I looked into the cieling, saw alien shamans whirling geometrical figures. They were speaking to me in the clicks and weirdness of the song...

I mean, I realize it was all a hallucination, but probably one of my most intense.

I think Shpongle intentionally uses lots of sounds and effects to stimulate your mind. While you're tripping, the whole synthesia effect becomes incredible. The sounds become intense visual hallucinations...

Shpongle is incredible while tripping. I got "nothing lasts... but nothing is lost" recently, I want to try that out while tripping. Can't wait =)

Posford of Shpongle definitely crafts architectural spaces as well as entities interacting with one another within the music.  Its really awesome.  You'll listen to one track hundreds of times, but then on mushrooms, you realize, holy shit, this track takes place on an swampy alien planet populated by green and purple gnomes and strange mechanical devices.  Its as clear as day!

This is what I wanted to hear.

I kept thinking, "This is why the website talks about 'shpongleland' and why the songs are called 'shpongle falls" and whatnot.

Thank you for the reply...I've never really listened to music like that tripping before (Well I listen to The Orb, Air, Massive Attack, and a few others like that, but SHPONGLE gives me a woody), and it was just awe-inspiring the things it made me see, feel, and think.

Thanks for the reply.

you can tell how great a band (or producer) is by things like that.

the only band that i listen to that really gets me that way is Tool, and mainly lateralus. I heard Maynard singing TO me once when I deciphered the heavy amounts of vocal layering on schism. It was fucking weird because then his voice got so much louder than the actual music was in the first place.

I think any way, it was a while ago and I was high. But it was something like that and fit with the message of the song.

I should get some shpongle stuff.

last weeken on acid... I imagined one Shpongle song (don't remember which one) as an entity breathing... or just living a life... I can't describe it past that... each sound was like a cell in the body and symbiotically it was a full on alive entity.

I have also had many visuals stimulated by Shpongle... but seriously I have never heard anything that trips me out as much as Shpongle does. May be my absolute favourite music I have ever come accross.

What you described really reminds me of the sort of thoughts I was having...

have you tried dancing to Shpongle? I donno if it uis your thing todance.... but man a little LSD and a liot of Shpongle makes my body flow like ripples on a calm lake. The best feeling in the world is letting go and dancing as wildly as possible.

Shpongle (simon posford & raja ram) music is crafted for DMT hyperspace journeys - which.. mushrooms mushroom's chem are nearly identical... and experiances are simalar... course.. adding nitrous to the mix makes the experiance practically identical.... look into posfords other stuff.. -hallucinogen- -infintiy project- and um.. i think he helped in - the mystery of the yeti (its awesome ambient) - and his earliest work is = celtic cross - hicksville.

peace

I've never done DMT.

You are saying that nitrous + shrooms is kinda similar to DMT?

This makes sense based on what I've read, because the visuals become so magnified, bizzare, and 3D.

I have to disagree that all of Shpongle's music is crafted specifically for DMT... I have read/seen interviews with Simon where he talks about having smoked DMT 1 - 3 times. I believe the music is created specifically for the psychedelic jurney, be it Mushrooms, LSD, DMT, Mescaline, etc etc.

Posford has been part of lots of music.

check out www.shpongle.com/hallucinogen to get more info.

and www.shpongle.com or www.shpongle.org for great info and lots of fun stuff to look at.

Not that I have the personal first hand experience. But I really don't believe that any psychedelic drug trip is really all that similar. Of course they all have similar elements... but each substance is totally unique in what the trip is like, at least in my understanding.

Well i can't relate with the visuals and ideas you describe... but tripping to shpongle really is a thing to be had. Mushrooms and Shpongle have such a link in my mind, an almost perfect one. The "feel" if anyone else knows what i mean is almost exactly the same for me.

I think what you noticed is melodies and other parts of the music interacting with and reacting to each other. Sober it's less obvious but it's still there.

Shpongle.....They love their ornamented pinwheels. I honestly think they graph out some of their music so as to make specific geometries.

Those geometries if heard correctly are only somewhat subjective to the individual listener.

personally I don't think that's needeed. a lot of experiance is what you do need though to combine everything in a perfect way and create good song structures.

I make music myself and first I couldn't grasp how some artists did things, but now I understand most of it. Everytime I make a track it gets better structured and interwoven and probably more complex too. It's a matter of experiance.

Feel free to check out my music (see banner in my sig)
