This Lid Ok?
    #4718643 - 09/27/05 06:30 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

got this semi-transparent lid for a rubbermaid tub i'm gonna be trying as an FC. U think it'll let in enough light - notice u can see the packet thats in the tub...

PS - 1 more Q, just knocked up 20 pint jars (GT) with poo/verm (40/60) & a bit of BRF. U think I can just crumble all the colonised jars and case? U think 10 jars is enough to fill this tub... dimensions are bout 17" by 12"

These tubs have similar transparency. pour in water from 10jars filled to the same level and see if you think it is deep enough.

3-4" is a good sub depth.

thanx srg! always a great help, one more thing tho - would it be better to crumble and case or cut slices of the cake and spread it out and case that? that is if my jars colonise, worried cause I mixed a bit of poo in there. 60% verm, 40% poo and lastly some brf.

That is pretty much personal preference. Some people really like to use the slices because it allows for you to spread out the sub much more evenly. I usually just crumble my cakes and even it out with my hand.

I'm not a big fan of slicing the cake because I don't want a knife touching my colonized cake. Although not a big chance, there is still a chance for contam that way. I'd much rather break the cake with clean hands.

I wouldn't be too worried about your sub colonizing, I've seen people who have done similar mixtures and have had very good results.

GL TO YA!
