Mold or Bruising?
    #4715756 - 09/26/05 05:32 PM (18 years, 5 months ago)

Hey i've got some blue stuff on my cake, it just recently started and my mushrooms are about 2 or 3 inches long right now....do you think it's bruising or mold...i thought that once the cakes are colonized it was hard to get contams like mold..but i may be wrong...what you guys think?

here is how you can tell the diff, take a q-tip and gently wipe the blue area. if you get something on the q-tip then it is a contam, if nothing comes off on the q-tip then it is just bruising.

if it is a contam it could have been present before colonization was complete and is just now coming to the surface.

FAE=Fresh Air Exchange.

does your fc have condensation on the walls. lightly? heavily and running drops down the sides? drops forming on the lid?
thats more water in there than i would use, in fact i just soak the perlite then drain it off before putting it in the fc. some however like to have some water in the perlite. so its 3/4" of water, how deep is the perlite?

well donkey, when you are typing things often enough you get to liking the abbreviations for all kinds of things imo, ime it saves me lots of keystrokes in a days time.
what i don't understand is all these />:)P blah blah blah's. whatever they mean idk. maybe someone can explain one day to me.

lil jerry, you sound like you are alright with the water content but keep an eye on it so you don't start getting growth in the water.
best of luck
