I would do something man, i use coco/verm because of my bad time with peat, i didnt sterilize from instructions i got on the message board about how it was really hard to contam cakes, and every one was hit with green mold, like 15 casings. But i have a PC now so i just use that.

I use a microwave to sterilize my casing materials. I've never used peat though so I don't know if nuking it would work. I usually use verm/coir. I get it wet and stick it in a ziplock back and nuke for like 5 minutes. Let it cool and pour.

Nuke it, but make sure it is moist. Clean out your microwave really good. Put your casing in a tupperware container with a lid. Leave one corner of the lid open to let steam escape. Microwave on high for 5-10 minutes, then stir it around and microwave it again for another 5-10 minutes. Then leave it for a couple of hours to cool in the microwave. Then spray some Lysol in front of the microwave area, open the microwave and close the corner of the lid you left open. Once the container feels completely cool to the touch, you are ready to go.
Just MAKE SURE that the casing materials are moist before you nuke them. I'd say bring them up to field capacity, then nuke. You can always mist the casing after you've applied it if it's not wet enough from the steam lost.

I wouldn't do the fridge thing. When you seal the lid on the steaming tupperware container, it will create kind of a "vacuum" and suck outside air in. That's why I said to wait after the second nuking. Unless your fridge is spotless, which most aren't, you may get some contams. You really do need to be more patient. What's a couple more hours or one more day when you've already waited weeks for your jars to colonize?
