what Grateful Dead have you listend to while tripping? how was it? i'll be getting some shrooms soon and i am a huge dead head, although i've never listened to them while on shrooms. i've only tripped a couple times and listened to pink floyd or doors before with some friends. i just wanted to hear people's opinion on the dead and which of their stuff is best to listen to while tripping. i'm looking forward to Volume 14 of Dick's Picks, disc 2. (Here comes sunshine, Weather Report, Dark Star, Eyes of the World, Sugar Magnolia). thanks.

Excellent choice! There's infinite possibilities. The first time I ever heard the dead I was tripping on some good L. and the album was Aoxomoxoa. So I always have that on hand while trippin'. :gd_icon: :slomo: :gd_icon:

American beauty is great, or the best and most poinient. Id look toward the live performances though.
Gerry's last shows at soldier feild are the best and weirdest in my world(a musician). He was close to death and then the rest. Most archetypal guitar work ive ever heard. His band was in tip top improv. shape(many mess-ups though), and he was more himself than ever. It can make one cry to listen to it.

Listen to the So Many Roads they did on that last tour. It's as if Jerry could foresee the future and he was reflecting on his life at the same time. Definetly can bring a tear.

Dicks picks are great. I would go with the live stuff myself.

My favorite Dead show is February 26, 1977. You can thank Hatta for the recommendation.

The show is stellar from beginning (Terrapin Station) to end (Good Lovin'). They premiered Terrapin Station at this show, and this version continues to be my favorite. I also love this version of Franklin's Tower, but virtually every song is spectacular so that's no surprise.

Any of their live stuff.....Dicks Picks are great, Closing of the Winterland, Dozin at the Knick, Nightfall of Diamonds.......tons of shows on the archive, I esp. recommend 4/8/77 and 5/11/72. There is nothing like listening to a Dead show while on good L....no music is as synergistic to an LSD trip as the Dead. Happy trails!

I couldn't find 4/8/77 on archive.org, but I'm downloading 5/11/72 right now. Thanks for the suggestion, the set list looks great!

amen campinman, also i think hundred year hall is a great cd (live and still with pigpen) and if ur triping man u need anthem of the sun. a musical interpretation of an acid trip seems fitting

I always thought the weirdest music id ever hear tripping or not, was stagger lee at their last show at soldier feild. It is enough weirdness to give you goose bumps, and extreemely odd/alien feelings while on hallucinogens.
Also, shrooms are great, but nothing can cause audio hallucinations nor make music sound as weird, complex, etc. as a bunch of real LSD-25. I will never get over my high-dose trips on acid, they were soooo breathtaking. Shooms are definately better in other ways ofcoarce. But if you say, wanted to figure out how to play the guitar in one day, acid might be the way to go.
Im a guitar player, mostly jazz-fusion, and nothing could have taught me how to play faster than acid and listening to the grateful dead. One year and It was like coltrane's concept of god became evident to me, like other minds beside my own could play through me. There is nothing in the world like channeling music that at first seems to come from your soal in the form of a math coach. I never felt like my talent belonged to me.

That is indeed an awesome concert. Another from the same year that I listen to a lot is from May 6 1977. Sweet HotW->Slipknot and Franklins Tower following that.
