Pressure cooking
    #4711269 - 09/25/05 09:31 PM (11 years, 2 months ago)

Hey guys i dont have a pressure cooker and tats what i blame my previous failed attempt at harvesting on. Now i tryed with the pot and boiling water but wasnt able 2 leave them in for over 10 mins.. Now i was wondering would putting the jars in my vegetable steamer work? Now it would b just as warm with all the boiling waters steam and i could leave em in for a hour maybe 1 and a 1/2 hours... Any thought or should i just try the pot technique again but just try it for longer?

A pressure cooker is cheap, just buy one. You will be happy you did.

get a pc, they can be expensive, but are so worth it. just think, you don't have to worry for weeks that your sterilization method fucked up your grow.

Look into fractional sterilization. You can sterilize without a PC, by boiling. You boil the jars for 20 minutes and then let sit 24 hours. Boil again for 20 minutes and let sit for 24 hours. Then, you boil for 1 hour. I've read success stories, but I haven't done it personally.

get a pot with a lid put a washcloth on the bottom put how ever many jars you can fit in there fill it up till the water is half way up the jars and put the top on and boil the water then bring the heat down i tad for about 3 hrs. let sit for like 6 hours because if you try to incolate early you will kill the spores. and this does work ive done it with all jars sucessful execpt 2

vegtable steamer will work for brf cakes. but i wouldnt od much more then that. and make sure you steam them for atleast an hour. Try to putt books or something on the top to build pressur which raises temps which increases success rates. It wont work every time but if you do 10 jars with the BRF and steam them like twice (two seperate times) i think 8 will come out fine.

I got an 8 qt PC from walmart for like 50 bucks CAN$. I think the time wasted on a fractional sterilization would be well worth the 50 bucks.
