What is nothing?
    #4710164 - 09/25/05 04:21 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

My idea of nothing is just lack of awareness. I can't conceive there actually being NO things at all....but if there were just things that were never/are not known about...that is nothing. This universe was nothing untill it became aware of its self through us or some other being. Yes something sprang out of nothing. I don't know if I believe all of that...they're just some thoughts I had.  :crazy2:

the lack of anything.
nothing.
there are few with nothing.
we are woefully misguided.

another thought about "nothing".... [Re: MJF]

maybe lack of awareness means that there really can be nothing...because matter and mind are co-dependent.

It must be vacuum, since nothing attracts something, its opposite?

Can you explain what a vacuum is....I have a vague idea...but I don't know how 'a vacuum' (which is a thing) could be nothing?

If it's a thing then I am false. Sorry.

A vacuum is the absence of any matter.

Well maybe it is synonymous with nothing.....don't be sorry....well be sorry if you want to...but are you really sorry...or is saying sorry just being polite?

Good question. I don't feel regret or that I did something wrong, it's more like an innocent polite excuse me.

Why is it called a vacuum? Isn't matter attracted to it (I shouldn't really say it...because it sounds like it is nothing)?

Matter is attracted to a vacuum because in the absence of matter, the is a void to be filled.

So the vacuum is constantly moving then? Because if matter is attracted to it..does it no longer stay a vacuum once matter reaches it and then pushes the vacuum further? Can a vacuum be pin-pointed?

If there is matter in one area and a vacuum in another, that creates differential pressure. Pressure has a tendency to try to equalize, so matter will fill the void in order to do that.

No, a vacuum does not constantly move, but objects can move towards a vacuum to fill it. The closest thing to a pure vacuum is outer space.

Does that mean the vacuum is attracting the matter or is the matter just constantly expanding?

If a vacuum is filled how is it still a vacuum?
