The lightly colored area will be prone to sunburn. Be careful about reintroducing it to stronger light and it will eventually become normal colored.

Once it recovers from the etoliation (sp?) will the lopho benefit from the increased surface area?

No, etoliated plants will never resume a normal shape. You have nothing to worry about.
