Expected weight
    #4705712 - 09/24/05 04:41 PM (11 years, 2 months ago)

I was wondering what the expected dry weight of a good flush of mushrooms off of one BRF cake would be? I am attempting to grow South American, and Mazatapec on 1/2 pint BRF cakes. 6 of each strain. I know it all depends on how i grow and under what conditions, i just want to know an average weight off one cake.

you will owe the mushroom tax agency 75grams per cake.

If the cake is dunked before the first flush, it should go 3-5 grams on the first flush and downhill from there.

Certain strains seam to preform better on cakes. Never tried SA or Maz, but i would have trouble fruiting strains like koh samui, cambos, lipa yai.

I agree.  I was just going over some notes from my "first" attempt, which was with PF cakes (B+ strain).  The average was roughly 3.5g, with the lightest (first) flush weighing about 2g, and the heaviest about 6.5g.  Conventional wisdom says that your dry weight will be about 1/10 of your wet weight.  In my personal experience, I've found the ratio to be closer to 1/12.

Good luck!

Alright, so i should expect 3.5grams average per flush or per cake? With 6 of these little cakes i should expect 21 or so grams. If i do dunk it you say i could get 5 grams per cake which would give me 30 grams all together. I am just curious but if i was to use a 1 pint BRF cake, what do you think the expected weight would be? double what a 1/2 pint would be? cause i have some 1 pint jars but i read around and saw that it takes a lot long to colonize a 1 pint jar.

What you can do is check out the grow logs or any threads of people that are trying the same strain, method, etc... that you are. IOW read, read, read. Look and see their results. Take into account whether they are vets or noobs, etc.. and make your own guestimate on what you have seen.

Assuming that I have no contams or other setbacks, I am allowing myself some expectations.

I myself am using 12 golden teacher/brf cakes and I'm approximating 6 grams dry for each cake, for each flush, at an average of 3 flushes per cake. Thus my guestimate for my total yield is 12 x 6 x 3 = 216 total dry grams. That comes out to 7.7oz dry.

Now, 8 of my cakes were spawned into 10lbs of poo which may double my approximate yield for those 8 cakes. So...that means I would add 8 x 6 x 3 = 144 total dry grams. When you add 216 + 144 = 360 total dry grams. That now comes out to 12.8oz dry.

But hey, I have yet to grow a single mature shroom and if I get half of that approximation..... I'll be happy as hell!

Hope this helps.....

hmmm.... that means that you believe that even if i get no contams or any other setbacks, that i will average 7 grams per cake, total after all flushes combined?Q#1

let's see....assuming i only get 3 flushes per cake, (and not 4, 5, 6 flushes, etc..., as many others do), then...that means that you think i will average only 3 flushes... with an average of 2.3 dry grams per flush, per cake?Q#2[2.3 x 3 x 12= 83.8 dry grams(84g=3oz)]

you did notice that i have spawned 8 of those cakes to 10lbs of h/poo?Q#3

FIRST; 2.3 grams average for the first 3 flushes is a little below the average from what i've seen.... since i've been here. not to mention that the GT strain seems to produce higher than average yields on cakes.... as far as the average cube goes....again from what i've seen....

SECOND; based on YOUR guess of my total yield(3oz), and assuming that it does double the total average yield per cake when spawned; 8 cakes with 10lbs of poo(as i had suggested).

then... the 4 cakes will produce 20%(16.8 dry grams) of my total yield...and the poo will give me 80%(67.2 dry grams) my total yield. do you agree with that?Q#4(16.8 + 67.2 = 84grams = 3oz)

if you do then....that means you believe my 4 GT pf cakes will average only 3 flushes, and produce a average of 1.4 dry grams per flush, at a total of 4.2 total dry grams per cake for all flushes combined?Q#5

meanwhile, that would mean that you believe that the 10lbs of colonized h/poo will only give me approximately 67.2 total dry grams for all combined flushes?Q#6

it's not that i'm "caught up" with numbers. i am simply a math oriented person. i've always been the guy who has the tax figured out on the purchase, in my head, before i got to the register.

not everyone who likes to estimate things is "caught up" with numbers. since i was a little kid i accelerated in math and see many things in my life as "word problems". some people are just geared that way.

i sometimes lay in bed for hours thinking about numbers, converting estimates of things in my life from percentages, to decimals, then to fractions. i add and subtract different variables from my estimates giving me alternative totals depending on the different variables, etc...

i am by no means a mathematical savant, my math isn't that advanced...it's just that i've always done alot of "head" math...sometimes this can be frustrating....but most times i find it comforting.
