I ordered a nameko kit from FP around early July, and it refuses to fruit.
It had a thick red rind on the surface of the block when it arrived, and I was told to open the bag when I called FP. Weeks later with regular misting, the block had not changed at all. Eventually, there was a spot of black mold growing on the surface of the outer rind.
I read in GGMM that the surface should be disturbed to expose living mycelium should the block fail to fruit. I removed the rind, and it was hard and brittle. Almost a week later, there's still no sign of any goop.
Is there anything I can do to make this fruit?
Also, I currently have a maitake patch that is fruiting, but one side of the mushroom looks to be aborted, and it is cracking open. Should I be worried about this?
