Martha's style terrarium
    #4702171 - 09/23/05 09:17 PM (11 years, 2 months ago)

These questions are for all of you that use a Martha Stewart style terrarium. If you keep it inside, do you put anything underneath it to capture any water run off? Would the constant moisture from the set up cause mold or mildew on the floor or walls. My friend bought a small green house without a bottom. He wants to put inside but doesn't want to cause an problems such as mold or mildew. He uses a bulk substrate with a casing layer of peat and vermiculite. He will mist as needed and set up a cool mist on a timer. He will not use the humidifier if wisting alone seems to work. If he doesn't find a way to control the water run off, he will be forced to place the green house on his balcony: which may not be ideal for proper growth.
Please comment freely and thanks...

I use a large sheet pan, like they use in restaurants, to collect the moisture that collects underneath my martha. It requires being changed every other day, but works fine.

Forgot to include that my martha is sealed on the bottom with 5 holes for the water to drip out. This is for higher humidity.

I would go with the greenhouse I bought. It already has shelves and is only a tad shorter than the martha. That made it fit in my coat closet perfect though. Do a search for 4 tier greenhouse on ebay. I got mine there for 36 bucks including shipping. If you can't find it there, it's here.. http://www.minigreenhouse.biz/site/758739/product/4tier
