How much should they be growing daily?
    #4701427 - 09/23/05 06:25 PM (11 years, 4 months ago)

I just got a pinset on my cake, and im wondering how much they should grow per day assuming all the conditions are right.

Also, i was reading a post on here, and it said to pick the largest pins because they can hog the nutrients. Should I?

AND, what are the optimal conditions for the fruiting?

here is what they are at right now.

temp: 72-74
Humidity: 100%
Light: 12/12
Fanning: as much as possible (usually 2-3 times a day)

thanks in advance

The will usually grow 2x's the size everyday. Under good conditions you should get fully matured fruits in about 4-5 days from pinning.

You don't necessarily want to pick the largest pins, but pins that are growing much faster than the other mushrooms.

for example...you have 50 pins that are about 1" tall on average, and then you have one that is already 3" tall...you want to pick it then.

your conditions sound fine.

3-5 days from pinning to mature fruits is a very good estimate, if it takes more than taht there is a problem.

I never pick anything off my casings till the cap is tearing, but i guess there are different opinions on this subject, and i grow on poo so its not gonna hog all the nutes.

ok, there have been pins for going on 3 days now, and they're not nearly mature.

there is one pin that is about 1 inch tall, and the rest are about half that, and shorter.

they dont seem to be growing fast at all.

last night they grew about a 1/4 of thier size.

am i still good?

Be patient, they will grow. Make sure to keep up your fresh air exchange and make sure your cake has enough moisture, if not, then mist.

you might wanna drop that humidity as well since you wanna avoid rot.

95+for pinning 85-92 rh for fruiting

i think the drop in humidity helps with the contam rate...someone correct me if wrong.

yeah, i already dropped the RH, since i really looks like the cake was waterlogged.

and they started to grow like crazy.

i had to run a few arrands for a couple of hours, and when i got back, they grew a noticeable amount

After they get going... if you notice no growth after 12 hours... *giggles*

Pick them

Has nothing to do with contam rate...Only bad thing about high Rh is that you'll probably get overlay with casings...If you had 99% Rh on a casing the whole time, worst comes to worse, It's pool with water, Then it'd eventually make any pinds rot...But Rotting isn't necessarily contamination until after it's rotted (Duh)...lol
