The Gaping Lotus Experience
    #4701254 - 09/23/05 05:37 PM (11 years, 11 months ago)

Tool:

"I had a friend once he took some acid
Now he thinks he's a fire engine
It's okay until he pisses on your lighter
Kinda smells kinda cool kinda funny anyway

satan, satan, satan...

I had a friend once he took some ecstasy
Tried to marry me and every one in the room
He was sort of loving kinda caring,
kinda tried to fuck my lazy boy
It got a bit messy all over the curtains,
arm chair covers, throw pillows, and carpeting

satan, satan, satan...

I'm getting bored again..."

What do you all make of this song?

sarcasm about how drugs are evil to some people, how it's stupid to think that way

I'm sure they were just goofing around and decided to make a funny song.

I just heard it for the first time about a week ago.

Apparently they knew Bill Hicks as well.

Their song Third Eyes has a couple pieces of Bill Hick's stand up at the start.

Yeah, Tool is a really cool band because they are friendly with other art types...Alex Grey...Bill Hicks....as opposed to living in their own little world.

When I first heard/saw Bill Hicks and his drug bit, the first thing that came to mind was that clip from Third Eye.

Aren't they coming out with a new album soon?

And practical jokers!

Not quite sure what to make of the song, other than it's rather funny. I often wonder about how often/much drugs the band uses. Maynard seems to have a really healthy outlook on them, blending the positive side of psychedelics with an awareness of the darker side of drugs (see Thirteenth Step).

One of the funniest things I've heard Maynard do, was during a concert, tell the crowd "Let me hear you say... YES!!!! *crowd says yes* Let me hear you say YES!!! *crowd says* Now let me hear you maybe!!! *some of the crowd says maybe* How about, PERHAPS!? *a few people say perhaps*".

I was dying when I first heard that bootleg.

The very nature of experience is ineffable; it transcends cognitive thought and intellectualized analysis. To be without experience is to be without an emotional knowledge of what the experience translates into. The desire for the understanding of what life is made of is the motivation that drives us all. Without it, in fear of the experiences what life can hold is among the greatest contradictions; to live in fear of death while not being alive.
