question about making the cakes
    #4700972 - 09/23/05 04:28 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

once I sterilize the jars and let them cool. I pull the foil back and inject the spores. Should I cover the jars back up when I leave them in the dark place for a few weeks?

no. leave the foil off and leave the holes uncovered. that's of course assuming you have brf jars with a verm layer.

Yes I put half an inch of verm ontop of the substrate. So I just leave them uncovered. What about airborn contaminants getting in?

that is what the verm layer is for.

leave the foil off, leave the tape off and make sure your lid isn't tight. it needs some air to speed colonization.
