An urgent problem in growing Salvia Divinorum!
    #4699314 - 09/23/05 06:39 AM (12 years, 3 days ago)

Hello!

I got this problem which, I hope, somebody here could help me solve.
About 2 months ago I got 2 S. Divinorum cuttings, and both grew well until 2 weeks ago when their growth nearly stopped. They are residing in a homemade plastic chamber (volume is about 4000 cm3) and are lit with only 2X30W neon tubes. I water them moderately and spray them almost every day and I spill excess water every 2 weeks.
Now, the problem is that one plant is becomming yellowish and pale, and few leaves got this brown blotches all over. In last few days, leaves on both plants are getting twisted and pointed downwards... Yesterday I applied a fungicide on the leaves of that yellowish plant, and I aproximated plants to the neon tubes. There are no insects on the plants.

Please answer this!

Thanx in advance.

Brown blotches sounds like nutrient deficiency. Have you given them any lately? And yellow leaves could be a case of over watering.

I personally think its a combo of a bad watering schedule and possibly nitrogen deficiancy(?)
The same thing can happen with tomatoes.... gerr....
When water, try not to water log it, and wait untill the first inch or so is dry, not bone dry, but dry enough, and water SLOWLY again.
This is how I water My Lady ( ), and it works great.
good luck!

i guess im going to go ahead and echo the last two posts. it is a nutrient defiency for sure. im certain of that. Go to a store that sells nutrients and you want something that is not very acidic, also your going to want to dilute it a bit so that u dont shock your plant. as for the yellowing that is most like an over water issuing, it might be solved by adding fertilizer thou.

Thank you all for those hints!

Well, I got 2 normal neon tubes, not any kind of expensive grow-lux type, and they are both 30W ones. Today I added one more 30W tube so it is 3 X 30W now, is this enough?

Two months ago, when I got these babies, they were so small and in abouth a month they got about 3 times bigger in volume, and all over the sudden this frustrating yellowing started. Is it possible for these, still so small plants (no more than 12cm or 5 inches), to demand nutrients besides natural nutrients in humus???

I stopped with the watering, so now I'll wait and see what happens...

Also might want to try clay pots instead because they obsorb some of the water, that way you help against over watering

So cool! I fed my plants with half to third normal solution of nutrient mostly by spraying, and little by watering the roots, and they are back and groing fairly fast by now! Both plants have nice dark green color and look satisfied, and if I donnt fertilize them for 2 days or more, they let me know they are hungry by turning bright so I feed them and they are totaly fine then.
I just wanted to post here about succesful recovery of my precious SD-s thanx to tips I recieved here!
Thanx you people!!
