Whats the chance this will work?
    #4696696 - 09/22/05 08:24 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

Well i have a took a 2 jars that didn't colonize right they were like 3/4 colonized and they wouldn't go any more so i did something stupid just to see what will happen and i threw them in a Tupperware and crumbled them up with sum store bought compost and manure and distilled water. Put a layer of verm on the top and then some tinfoil with sum holes in it just to see what the fuck will happen. You think anything will happen? I don't think so.

Hahaha...that's funny. I did that same shit a few months ago. You know what? it worked fine. The shrooms were kinda sad looking, real skinny and short, but it yielded about 30 g dried on the first flush. I was satisfied.

Well.....we'll see what happens. I threw my verm in the oven, covered in foil, and baked it at 400 degrees for an hour. Half ass, but as I said, worked briefly.

Keep in mind that I'm pretty much a noob. But from the reading I've done, until you see myc popping up in a few different places.

you might get some results but the casing will probably fall to contaminations much sooner than one that was done properly. the last 5% of effort makes a significant amount of difference in yield and quality. good luck.

Wait until it is colonized if it even colonizes man. Don't just put it in the F/C as soon as there is a bit of mycellial growth. You should have waited until it was colonized, and then added the verm. casing layer.. but anyway

So normally you would break up your colonized cakes and spawn them to your bulk substrate(whatever compost/manure that you bought..) which should be in the tupperware/container of your choice. Once you have crumbled your cakes and spawned them to your dung (and mixed in..) you cover the container that they are in, and leave some small holes in the lid for gas exchange. You then place this container in your incubator which should be about 82 degrees for a bulk substrate. Once this has colonized completely you case it with whatever casing mix you wish to use. Then it goes back in the incubator for a couple of days or so.. to let a bit of myc. get a hold of the casing layer. Then you introduce it to fruiting conditions and watch the fruits of your labour come to life.

I have done that before...mainly just screwing around. I did the same exact thing, only with a cake that was stalled at 20% colonization.

It did work, I got mushrooms, but don't expect anything great (usually 2-3" tall mushies).

It all depends on your store bought compost....that stuff is pretty much hit or miss....some never work, some work some of the time, none work all of the time.

But yes...leave incubate like you would a regular casing, then fruit once mycelium hits the top surface. Just hope to get at least one mushi to get at least a print.
