Studying

I hate it, but it's essential.
What are some strategies you all use to study, motivate yourself, and to pay attention?

I just study at school. I don't go home til I'm done. Way too many distractions here.

yep. i usually hang on the top floor of the campus library where it's quiet until i get all my shit done. if i go home i end up high and drunk within an hour. it's a vicious cycle, and a not very productive one. find a quiet place without distractions and just study. it's a mental trick, and it gets easier every time.

I go to the uni. library to keep me focused. I don't need much motivation because I like what I study, I only need to concentrate for a long time.

Quiet libraries suck. I like the idea of using headphones, ut can't seem to decide on any studying music.
any excuse to jack around at home on the computer, i guess. Maybe I'll just load up some Mozart and Bach and be off...

Ok cool, so basically a quiet space without too many distractions, and an upper or two certainly wouldn't hurt.
What about specific studying strategies. They say that repetition is the best way to memorize material (I think that's fairly obvious), but there are many ways to go about 'repetition'...anything in particular that's worked well for you guys?

I have trouble mostly with mathematics and philosophy. In math, there can be a lot of theorems and concepts to memorize. I suppose just practice problems for each concept would be the best way, no?
With intro. philosophy it's mainly the philosophers and the theories and ideas they presented.

Hm, somehow that idea never occured to me, although now that you mentioned it, it seems blindingly obvious. I'll definitely be trying that out tomorrow.

Yes, you just have to solve many problems. The different theorems and concepts become way more organized and clear in my head if I practice enough. Reading is not enough.

The key to studying is concentration. If you're not focused you can stare at the same page for hours and not absorb anything.
Meditation is concentration exercise. Liquid crack.

Yes indeed. My concentration used to be much higher, but these days it's just not up to par. I'm not sure whether or not to attribute it to past drug abuse, but I'm fairly certain that played a part.
I meditate daily, but it is, of course, an ongoing process, and I'm essentially a beginner.
Anyways, I think I'm going to try some nootropics soon, see if they can't help just a little.

Hehe, this is so, but I mean beginner more in terms of how long I've been meditating. It would have been more accurate for me to say that compared to someone who has been meditating for many years, I am a beginner.

You've been meditating all your life, you just forgot. You're remembering.
