mutations - genetic or environmental?

I have just started using colonized straw/dung bags from grain spawn and placing outdoors to fruit, with a lot of success. I have seen many of the "infinite expressions of p. cubensis." I was wondering if these mutations are common amongst other people using straw/ dung outside or if they are unique mutations of this strain that I am using. They all came from one clone and I see these types of mutations regularly.

The one with the shroom growing upside down from the cap of the other, I noticed that the stem of the top shroom did not touch the ground in any spot. I hope someone finds this interesting, as I read a lot of posts here, but rarely have anything worthy to add. (You all cover alot here. Keep it up!) assquach
oh yeah, btw, it was originally a B+ from sporeworks, and the specimen cloned did not exhibit any unusual characteristics.

Genetic. I have an isolate that makes similar mushrooms. It was one of ten strains that were isolated on agar from the same sporeprint. All were exposed to the same environmental conditions, but that particular isolate is the only one that mutates like that. Pretty cool to look at huh? RR

I've gotten some similar mutants from Orissa India grows, they are fun to watch as they grow. I had three other cubies growing in the same tub and only the O.I's mutated. Oddly enough, I bought some shitake from the grocery and had one of the double cap mutants in the bunch.

A friend had a strange looking growth that showed up several times from the same liquid culture... the growths only stuck around for a little while, and then something odd happened- the same growth started showing up on another strain growing in the same room... it popped up in that strain several times over two weeks, and it stopped appearing as suddenly as it started... dissection of the growths showed signs of sever mutation, with gill tissue and coloring appearing randomly throughout the growth...
we kicked it around a while, and our best guess was that the mutation was viral in origin...

Can be both, but not necessarily in your situation. Petroleum products, as one example, can cause similar disfigurations. These products, btw, are in many household and and personal items used on a daily basis. Also in teks used to prevent raining in tubs.
