Slim pickings

The little bit of rain that came to my area was enough to get things wet but it has been so dry lately that most of the woodland species that should be thriving this time of year are just not fruiting.

I'm at very low elevation though. A trip to PA might be in order..
I went and checked all of my local spots in the nearby woods..

I brought back a couple edible species, but nothing that I really consider a "great" find.

A pretty large patch of Laccaria laccata.. The caps are good, stems are tough. The pics came out awful..

The only other edible that I found enough of to even bother eating were honey mushrooms. I found a bunch of patches of these.

I also saw some oysters out there and some hericium but I got to them too late.. They were all brown, watery, reeked, and had all kinds of bugs and flies on them.  :frown:

Maybe I will be more lucky next time it rains.

I didn't think the pics were too bad. That's more than what I've been finding lately. It's still summer in most of the country it appears =\

Depressing to look at the forecast and see 65 degree weather and sunny for another week.

Yeah, these dry boring mushroom seasons are pretty depressing.

Around this same time last year, I could go out after a good rain and come back with like dozens of different species.

At least I can come here and look at other people's finds and stuff. That's one of the things I really love about this site.. it gives you the chance to view and study other people's finds from all parts of the world.

It sure sucks when it gets dry, doesn't it. I'm so tired of the damn drought we've been having here for several years.

Happy mushrooming!
