Yey! :-( I actually was kind of excited, until I realized all of my spawn jars had it and my two spawn bags had black mold. (Let me just make sure, the mold is hot pink, and grew in a line around the circumfrence of the jar, is that lipstick mold?)I've never had any contams since I started in this room about 3 months ago. Howecome my spawn bags never work out?

I've had very little success with spawn bags or environment bags. out of appx. 20 bags I've seen 3 reach 100%. (prepared bags from vendors) I have had much better results, making my own substrate. Though I have saved some of the bags, and intend to mix thier contents into a custom substrate. No more quick fixes for me. Besides it's so much more rewarding to see how well my own stuff works. About the mold, I've had the same hot pink stuff in two jars of my last batch, being as new as I am, I wasn't sure what to think of it. I'd never heard of pink mold, I thought they were green, black, cobweb, ect. but never associated pink with mold... I did throw them out though, it just didn't feel right. Hopefully one of the pros can shed some light on this hot pink issue.

From my experience I dont think using spawn bags was good, why use those bags when you can do them so much easier through jars? You have to pay more for them too.

if you have a good sealer, i really don't see how you could get a comtam with a bag when you preseal. yes its more expensive, but also holds more substrate and easier to break and shake.

I've had 100% success with vendor bought spawn bags. My vendor isn't a sponsor though, so you won't hear much about them on this site. I think the problem with the bags from most vendors is that they are too dry. They usually come in a brick-like form which seems rather dry for colonization, much less fruiting. The bags I normally get have a very loose and moist substrate which colonizes like wild fire. Making the bags yourself is the best way, as long as you get the humidity right.
