Liberals Furious Over New Children's Book

Liberals Furious Over New Children's Book

New kid?s book ?Liberals Under My Bed? becomes lightning rod for controversy. Prominent liberals liken it to Nazi propaganda, but conservative author laughs off allegations.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) September 20, 2005 ?- Liberals all over the country are up in arms over a new children?s book that portrays cartoon versions of left-wing icons Hillary Clinton and Ted Kennedy taxing and regulating a lemonade stand.

?Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed? (Kids Ahead; hardcover: $15.95; ISBN 0976726904) hits bookstore shelves today, but author Katharine DeBrecht has already found herself under fire from liberals. MSNBC host Ron Reagan was incensed over the book and scolded DeBrecht on his cable television show. Fox News host Alan Colmes claimed the book exists for the purpose of ?brainwashing.? Democratic Underground, a popular liberal Web site, named DeBrecht to its ?Top 10 Conservative Idiots? list. And Daily Kos, the most trafficked left-wing blog, likened the book to Nazi propaganda.

In spite of the unflattering comparisons to Hitler, ?Liberals Under My Bed? author DeBrecht is nonplussed by the allegations.

?What else would you expect from liberals?? shrugs DeBrecht, a mother of three and former co-captain of Security Moms for Bush. ?Liberals have been foisting their ideological agenda on our kids for years, and now they?re beside themselves that someone would stand up to them. Evidently books about socialist fish and gay kings are OK, but a story about hard work and self-reliance is too extreme.?

DeBrecht asserts that no liberals have protested the presence of books such as ?Rainbow Fish? (where a fish is hectored into giving away his beautiful scales so that all the fish look the same) and ?King & King? (where two princes marry each other and adopt a little girl) in classrooms. She also points to the prohibition on prayer in school, attacks on the Boy Scouts, opposition to school choice, and the recent court ruling banning the Pledge of Allegiance because it contained the phrase ?under God? as evidence of a liberal agenda targeting kids.

?Evidently liberals oppose parents who believe in traditional values having a book that will help them teach those values to their children,? says DeBrecht. ?But, then again, liberals oppose anything that supports religion, traditional families, and the free market. Those institutions are obstacles to their goals of eliminating personal responsibility and establishing a welfare state.?

?Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed? -- which features full-color illustrations by award winning artist Jim Hummel -- tells of two brothers who open a lemonade stand. Their plans to save up their hard earned profits to buy a swing set go awry when a Ted Kennedy character taxes away their profits and a pants-suit clad Hillary Clinton look-alike outlaws sugary drinks

Sounds more like a commentary on America's liberation from Britain...if you ignore the title that is.

Someone should counter this by writing a children's book that teaches conservatives are fascist

That book sounds so fucking stupid.

Even Conservatives should look down on practices like this. Trying to indoctrinate children in to believing certain political affiliations before they can make up there own minds about the actual content of said political practices is abhorred.

It would be like if a young child smells a flower, and get stung by a bee, but does not see it. So now the child thinks smelling flowers causes pain. I think it's call false associations. Forcing false associations on kids is fucking disgusting. You're fucking misrepresenting the world, intentionally.

Hilary Clinton is not a monster under you're bed, she just looks like one. (God I hope she's not under my bed)

This sounds very Hitler's Youth, and don't fucking tell me that's just because I'm libie scum.... Because politically liberal based children's propaganda is equally disgusting.

Let the kids grow up to be adults that actually understand the issues, instead of representing something as negative 'just cuz'...

What difference does it make, most parents indoctrine their kids anyway with their view of the world

*correction Bad parents do.

My belief system is quite different from my parents, they never forced much on me in that way. They mostly just listened and gave advice. So it can be done.

In my opinion, unfortunately, most parents are bad parents.

i support the cunt's right to freedom of speech...however i believe she should have her throat slit on an altar and her blood offered as a gift to the egytipian sun god.

but seriously i hope her kids turn out gay. in fact i hope the book has magical powers to turn any kid that reads it into a flamer.

but seriously this left-right thing is getting more brutal everyday. the sides really hate each other. now its come to indoctrinating kids. fucking ponderous... fucking ponderous.

one more thing. those "liberal" books they are talking about, teach kids values. tolerance to gays and sharing. i doubt a kid is gonna equate sharing with socialism. conservative brats dont sharE????? they arent books with cartoon george bush's sending them to die in iraq.

It has become tribal. Debate does not exist between the two, its descended "I'm right, you're wrong, no matter what"

The fucking hilarious thing about the whole thing is most don't even know what Liberal or Conservative means anymore.

Book Description
This is a book about a President named George who has a dream. In this dream, George becomes a little boy, and he meets a Truth Fairy who is trying to teach him lessons about How to not manipulate the Media, How to treat Veterans, How to be honest, How to be respectful with families who have lost soldiers in war, How to go to War only when necessary, How not to label people as Boogeymen, How not to invade countries, How to control greed, How to hold fair elections, and How to behave as a leader. Though there are political lessons and footnotes for people to learn more, the ultimate lesson in the 32 paged hard cover children's style 81/2" x 11" book is that we are all connected; we are all one. On his journey while playing the game of "Let's Imagine" with the Truth Fairy, the young boy George learns many other lessons, including the fact that it is up to each of us to create the person we are becoming.

I agree. I do not like it when children are indocrinated to any system of thought. It is unseemly when adults try to push ideas upon unformed minds.

I have issues with the Right-Wing when it comes to this:

1. Religion is the basis of a lot of people's morality, personal beliefs, and actions. The decision to dedicate one's self to such an important and profound thing is too complicated for a child.

2. Dedication to one's country (patriotism) amongst a population is necessary in order for a nation to survive. However, the choice to participate as an informed citizen and to take pride in your nation and your people is something that again is too complicated for a child.

I also have issues with the Left-Wing on this:

1. I have seen many examples of "sneak attack" Marxism in things that are oriented towards children.

Only an informed adult is capable of making such decisions and choices. To bombard a young child with such heady subjects and then try to get them to think like you is irresponsible and wrong.

If I ever reproduce, I am going to tell my spawn to not listen to people who make flowery arguments and sugar-coated examples and who attempt to sway other people's opinions.

thats in fairly bad taste too, but there's a very significant difference. Bush is just a person, it doesn't drag in Republicanism from the summary.

The horrible part of the hiding-bed-monster book is that it demonizes taxes and says they are just liberal things. This is a relatively dangerous indoctrination, not just stupid -- it's hateful in that it is targetting a group unfairly. Instead of attacking taxes as something bad that we have to deal with ( repuplicans aren't anti-tax ), it says democrats want to take your money for themselves and fuck you over. Wtf?

This is America. People can write whatever they please. If the parents want their children to grow up with one mindset or another who are any of us to tell them otherwise?
If you do not like it, raise your kids the opposite and have them battle it out during a Congressional debate.
