Smashing Pumpkins - Adore

The most underrated, underappreciate of all of Smashing Pumpkins' albums, I think its detractors are missing out on something important. Yes, it's not as out-and-out rockin' as other SP albums, yes it's got some weaker songs somewhere in the mix, but when it comes down to it you can't find Billy Corgan's soul more open anywhere else. His sadness hits me far harder than his anger ever did...
Lately I just can't seem to believe Discard my friends to change the scenery It meant the world to hold a bruising faith But now it's just a matter of grace

Adore is good, but their underappreciated album is definitely Pisces Iscariot.

I wish I had it, I like a lot of the songs on it, I enjoy almost all of Smashing Pumpkins music.. some of thier songs are strange, but I can say that about some songs from The Beatles as well.

That's why I think the Pumpkins are so cool, skunk, like the BEatles they never put themselves in a corner, they always innovated.

if you have to think about maybe remembering if you liked it or not, maybe you should give it another listen, with an open mind?
this album got no play, no respect and no poopykins.
in fact, ive never listened to it.
i own every album up to it, and then i almost figured no other albums were neccessary.
shame on me.

i own an obscene amount of music recorded by the pumpkins and i love it all. i have an unhealthy obsession. they are the best band ever. and adore is amazing. it's somewhat similar to corgan's new solo cd that just came out in june. get it.

pisces is great, but still more popular than adore was..adore was very much underrated. the only reason it suffered was that it lacked chamberlain's percussive creativity. the songs themselves prove corgan's genius as a songwriter, but i think he needs jimmy around too.

Used to be a HUGE Pumpkins fan. Still love 'em, just not the way I used to. I personally think Adore has some amazing song writing, but unfortunately Billy wanted to be too "electronica" which detracts from the intimate feeling of the album. At least for me. The live versions of the songs which are too electronica end up being allowed to breathe more.
Still, the songs off Adore which retain that intimate feeling are really moving. Songs like To Sheila, Pug, and probably the best of all, For Martha.

I dunno. There were some good songs on Adore, but it just didn't keep my interest the whole way through the way that Siamese Dream or Mellon Collie did.

i agree. it's a beautiful cd, but...i just don't crave it as much. if i could have only one cd the rest of my life, it would be mellon collie.

i caught the tail end of this thread... let me say that I'm a PumpkinHead... Pisces Iscariot is just a collection of B-sides. No doubt it's a great listen but I wouldn't call it their "underappreciated album", oh, and Gish is my favorite.

you're right... and since it's pretty old my taste in music at that time may not have developed into the very open minded and various styles of music ranging all over the board that it is today. i suppose i could check it out again

Fer sure! The next two albums, Machina and Machina 2, get back in the groove cuz Jimmy's back on board. It's still a great album, just maybe not as rock and roll as their earlier work. It's a lot more introspective and personal. Definitely some great songs and great lyrics. And I've heard a show from this tour and those songs sounded awesome live. I love the Pumpkins!
Robot - I like what you said about his sadness on this album versus the anger on his earlier ones. Lots of folks connected with the angst of Mellon Collie - like me - but Adore is a quiet album that takes repeated listenings to appreciate.

Adore was the pumpkin's downfall. Machina just sealed the deal.
The greatest SP album of all time is mellon collie and the infinte sadness. Then Pisces Iscariot, Siamese Dream, and Gish.
Adore had maybe two or three songs I could tolerate, the rest was garbage.
My fave song off Adore is annie-dog.
EDIT: and I still sport my 'zero' shirt. infact I believe I'll wear it today, it's so cold in my work.
