yup, this is cobweb, no need to toss it at all, spray it with a 0.3 H2O2 Solution (peroxide/water 1:9 ratio) or so, maybe a little stronger, it doesn't really matter, the cobweb should go away instantly (at least to the naked eye) and yeah, well thats it.. problem solved

its a type of mold and their spores are just floating about. you can avoid them by being as sterile as possible. even then you may end up with some.
how colonized are the jars? i don't think they are worth keeping around for any reason. you could possibly do something with them outside if you desire.

cobweb is least of any mold problems, it can quickly and easily be saved with a H202 solution!

dunk it in a 0.3-1% solution for a few minutes, worked just fine for me, 6 of my pint jars had 20-30% cobweb mold on em, i dunked em in the solution, broke em up, cased them and a week later io was flushing 100g a casing, and i never had any mold problems after that!

p.s. it does "shock" the mycellium a bit, but it's well worth for saving a cake

Edited: I could of hear the cakes "tingeling/sparkeling?"

No of course not lol, it has to be fully colonised, my bad if he mentioned it above.

well IMO:

-misting with solution for not fully colonised cakes
-dunking in solution for full colonised cakes

not trying to outsmart anyone here.., i'm just saying this is what i did, and it worked 100%
