flush questions
    #4687433 - 09/20/05 07:10 PM (18 years, 6 months ago)

Okay looks like my first flush has finished. i picked all of them except 3. the cap isnt flat yet. How long before the second flush begins? does the mycelium sorta hide after a flush or kinda turn clear/gray? also, i notice today that the center of the cake was hard, i think that is cause i noticed that water droplets acumilated on the inside of the lid from humidity and would drop good size water drops on the cake... so after i picked to aborts with tweezers i kinda turned the hard spots on the center of the casing, then i sprayed two light sprays. was that good or bad ? do you think my casing still has a chance?

can you just put straight dry verm on a casing to patch and then lightly spray?

yes you can use just straight verm to patch a casing layer. did you case with straight verm? if not try and use the same casing mix you applied originally.
what do you mean you turned the hard spots in the center of the casing? you actually like turned the casing layer around. hmmm...maybe it will work out for the best. kinda like a deep scratching.
well if you have large water drops falling from the lid onto the casing then it will pack it down, so that can explain the hard spot. did you get anything from that hard area?
it sounds like you may need to decrease the humidity in the fc. if it is building water like that on the lid then it is too high for cased substrates.
do ya know what the humidity is? temp? whats the method of FAE?
:peace:

temp between 70-75 and humidity my hygrometer just says hi.. nothing from the hard spot and when i said turned the hard spots i meant like deep scratch almost like using pitch fork.. and maybe i will lower humidity.. also.. i just misted tonight after the aborts is that cool? and tomorrow i will put a thin layer of verm but do i have to mist after that?

yeah thats good that you misted after picking the aborts off and doing your turning, this will get some moisture back into the casing layer.
you really need to lower the humidity for these babies. cased substrates dont need the humidity that high. the casing layer is providing some humidity as well. you want to get it down to around 90%.
yes i would also mist after you apply the verm patching, you should moisten it before you apply as well.
what are you doing for fresh air exchange?

i have lava rocks with two bubble wands with each wand its own dual air pump in a rubber maid with the lid just laying so air pushes out works great.. i used corn as a substrate as well right now
