Holding my breath...found the PERFECT new home
    #4687357 - 09/20/05 06:57 PM (18 years, 6 months ago)

Okay, well, last weekend Kevin and I went out to go searching for duplexes with Kevin's grandparents.  If you recall they were going to purchase one of them for us to live in while Kevin goes to college.

Anyway, Kevin's grandfather didn't see any he wanted to buy.  He said he didn't see any really good deals.  Kevin and I however, found the most BEAUTIFUL duplex.  It's in an AWESOME neighborhood, with a big park and pool just a short walk away.

I went inside of it, and KNEW I was home.  People who have home-searched or apartment-searched know what I mean.  It reminded me of my grandparents house in the wilds of Pennsylvania, very old and rustic-smelling.  It has a very 70's look.

On the porch there are seven really huge and weird looking beams overhead.  It gives you a weird feeling, like when I was walking up to this unit I felt like I was below decks on an ocean going vessel or something.

It has three large bedrooms, and two and a half baths.  It has two living rooms downstairs, and ALL new tile!!   (I HATE carpet) Plus it has a fireplace which my husband was hoping for.

The walls are pure wood, and there is a iron railed stairway going upstairs to the bedrooms.  Outside, there is a sizeable yard, perfect for a big dog, and lots of vegetable and flower beds.

Kevin's grandparents didn't want to buy the duplex, but because we loved it so much, they are going to rent that unit for us.  It is $1000 per month, but when I get put on commission as a groomer in six months Kevin and I will be able to pay the rent ourselves.

Anyway...the co-sign papers will be faxed to his grandparents tomorrow.  I am holding my breath since I cannot believe this is actually happening.

Say if they did buy one would it be under kevins name? or are they buying it for themselevs and you guys can live in it. If they where buying one for you guys under his name i would wait till they find something they want to buy.not having a mortage to pay is a huge blessing.

I don't know. Maybe you should wait and let them buy y'all one. Ownership > renting.

On the other hand, if they're like my grandparents, a deal to them would be next to nothing, and they'd never buy anything!

It would be under Kevin's and his grandfather's conjoined company's name. That's where all the money comes from, from their company. Kevin owns 49% and his grandfather owns 51%, or something like that. My husband already owns several properties in the DFW area.

And we've all decided it is best for hubby and I to stay away from buying anything right now...we've chosen to wait on buying until we can move to Canada and afford a HOUSE.

Ravus: In Texas.

Awesome. I have an appointment Friday to sign papers to sell my house. It is best to wait and buy when you know exactly what you want and that you want the responsibility. Landlords at least have to take care of a property and maintaining a house sometimes is not that easy.

I hope you get this duplex. Sounds really nice.
