Sleeping in Vans
    #4685942 - 09/20/05 12:11 PM (18 years, 6 months ago)

So last night I was a little too intoxicated to be driving home so I decided to pass out in my van. I parked in a residential area and passed out for a few hours 'til I felt ok to drive.
This actually worked out really well and I'm wondering how illegal it is for me to do this? I'm sure someone here has spent some time sleeping in vans... haha

keys no where near the ignition and if they ask how you got there - never ever ever admit to driving

Yep, my friend learned that the hard way. Luckily I had mine out, and on the floor of the car.

Yeah, my friend was getting a little pissy with me because I didn't want to be playing music while sitting there.... but I knew it was best to have the keys out of the ignition

I slept in the bed of a pickup truck once. It was awkward when I popped up as two old ladies were taking their morning walk by the truck

I'm sure it's legal, you just have to worry about getting a ticket (or towed) for some parking regulation. (no overnight parking, no parking zones, etc)

I got arrested for sleeping in a van a while back... well, I got arrested for something else, but smalltown cops don't look highly upon a dirty hippy sleeping in their quiet town.

It totally depends on the city and their ordinances.
Most Wal-Mart's dont mind if you park and sleep in the lot,
but the local police will still try and dick you around.

Sam walton used to do a lot of travelling in a motor home, and he was always pissed because he couldn't find a place to park at night... so after he made it big he declared that walmart parking lots would be a safe haven for people to sleep in their vehicles...

Park at a rest area and you're free from the law.

Yes yes yes. I've heard this before.
But do you want to tell that to the Police officer in Noblesville, Indiana
who made my 2 friends and I leave wal-mart at the butt-crack of dawn
with no real-place to go and obviously high-intoxicated?
We we're just sleeping in his Van after a Darkstar/Keller Williams concert.

It depends on the city and their ordinances.

all you have to do is cover up all the windows
on my way to reggae on the river this year our van broke down and we had to spend the night in a service station lot  meth heads everywhere.
luckily the van was equiped with window coverings so we where tottaly cut off from the outside
