Fruiting Chambre Humidity Temp + Question.
    #4685861 - 09/20/05 01:28 PM (11 years, 2 months ago)

I've read SO many different answers to this question. I just want one good god damn answer ha. For these are BRF+Verm Cakes.

At what humdidity tempature should the fruiting chamber be inside during the growth of mushrooms?

Also is 8 hours of light ok as opposed to 12? Then the remainder dark....

How many times do you guys do the air exchange for the chamber? Ive been told 2x a day to 2x a hour.....What is your general opinion?

And last question.....When i mist the inside of the chamber...Is it ok to mist on top of the cakes???

Thanks for the help, its just there seems to be so many answers to some questions and others i couldnt find.

1. For cakes you want your FC at 100%RH and temps at around 75-80F.

2. 8 hours of light and 16 hours of darkness is ok.

3. Air exchange from 3-5x's a day....add a fishtank air bubbler to help out.

4. Yes, it is ok to mist your cake. You want to do a dunk and roll each time you birth your cakes to help rehydrate them and increase yields. Some people don't like to mist the cakes directly because they think it causes aborts, but I've always misted the crap out of my cakes and been fine. Do it from about 12-15" away.

If you don't know what dunk and roll is....after you birth your cake, completely submerge the cake under water for 12-24 hours, then roll the cake in dry verm before fruiting.

Hope that helps.

GL TO YA!

you've defiently been a help man.
quick question though.....FC @ 100%...what do you mean by this?

also is dunking necessary.....or no.
it seems like a benefit in the growing process. but without it, i will still have success correct?

Humidity needs to be near, if not at 100% for CAKES. Temps SHOULD be in the 74-78 range for fruiting, but I've personally gotten away with fruiting at higher temps. 8 hours of light is fine. Light just let's the mycelium know it's at the surface of the substrate and it needs to fruit to make spores and multiply, it's not like weed where light will affect how they grow other than the direction they grow. You get alot of different answers about fanning because you can get away with fanning 1-2 times a day, but that is not OPTIMAL. I usually fanned mine once every 2 hours or so for 2-3 seconds at a time. DO NOT mist the cakes when you mist the chamber. Standing water on the cakes is inviting contams to come over and play. :frown: If you want your cakes moist, dunk them!

You will get many different opinions on this because you can get fruits even without optimal conditions. These were my results with cakes:

Humidity was 98-100%
Fanned 3-4 times a day
Temp between 78-82 F

Another example of different opinions :smirk: This just proves that people get good results doing things differently. Nothing is etched in stone. FC @ 100% is Fruiting Chamber at 100% humidity.

i have a humidity tempature gauge inside the chamber...right now its only at 70.

how the fuck did you get it to 100? If thats what you mean by "close to 100%". Also do you mean the chamber should be stored in an area with a temp of 75-80....sorry i may be a bit confused right now.

what is your process in filling it? I was told dunk the perlite in water, sift it out and place it in the chamber.....

It's rare to obtain an actual RH of 100% without automation besides I wouldn't recommend it anyway. You want some consistant transpiration which aid developing fruitbodies. 95-98% for cakes.
