Addiction Counseller

Would this be a good job? or would it suck? I was thinking about this last night, being a part of this community, well I know alot of drug addicts, and I thought it would be a way of sort of giving back....

I would get fed up with constantly debunking myths to people who won't listen. But, for whoever listened... would make it all worth while.

I think a neighbor a few blocks away is an addiction counsellor for the military. It can be a rewarding but stressful job. Read up on it, see if it sounds like something for you.

I have a couple of freinds that are addiction councellors, in addition to dating one for a while. I would say that if you have the personality that is willing to help others while putting up with alot of abuse (verbal and physical) then addictions counsellor is right up your alley. I know that I couldn't do it...but those friends of mine that are in the field appear to be quite content with their job. (btw...they are all women)

I think it's great that you want to give back and help others, but be prepared for huge disappointments...  But somebody's gotta do it, eh?

I've known a few addictions counselors who were addicts themselves and also in a way lived for the abuse from their clients.  Really a very psychologically dependent situation.

Good luck   You have to know your boundaries for sure and how much stress you are capable of handling.
