a friend of mine left his bike up at a local resturant for a few days chaines to a do not park sign... anyways today i was with him and he asked me to drive by and see if it was there... i did and it was missing. it was seen there by the owner of the bike, my friend at 10 am that day, and it was 8pm when we got there...
it was behind the resturant where the bus boys and cooks hang out. the vast majority of whom are mexican, and usually ride bikes to work, as they mostly live in the same place a mile away.
so as i speak spanish i went in and asked a few of the employees about it (everyone not just the mexican employees) who didnt know anything, many of which were close friends and acquantinces. then i decided to ask the bus boy that was working.
he didnt speak english so i had to ask him in spanish. i asked him if he knew anything about a bicycle and he said no. i tild him that we thought it was an employee that stole the bike as it was stolen not at night, but during the day. i told him that we would not stop looking and asking questions untill we found it... then i asked for his name which he refused to give to me, somthing i find reather suspicous.
anyways we left the resturant not knowing much more than we did allready.. and headed over to the afformentioned apartments. we got out of the car and were walking around the building where there were many bikes up against the railings. half way around the bildings we came across a group of guys drinking who were all mexican.. they said hi and we said hi. none of them spoke english. however i speak spaninsh almost fluently and told them that we were just looking for a bicicle.
that is where the troubble came around. they started following us, then cut us off when we circled around the front of the building. again they asked us what we were doing, i replied "solomente estamos buscando para la bicycleta de mi amigo, " or somthing... they started after us saying " no estamos robarones" or somthing along the lines of we arent thieves...
we kept walking and they were swearing at us and comming up on us.. there were 2 of them and 2 of us. one of the mexicans pushed me, cussing me out and threatning me, as the other one went towards my friend, i told them numerous times that we were leaving to the car, but they kept after us.. at this point, my friend who had borrowed my knife pulled it out, and said we just want to leave, which i translated....
we got in the car and left. tomorrow im going to go back up to the resturant and talk to the cooks and others that are working about the bike missing. the majority of them arent legal, so says one of our friends that works at the resturant, so were going to threaten to call the ins on them.
normally i wouldnt involve myself, but this was a good friend , most of my friends bikes are fre and garbage picked, but this one cost over $400 and had lots of sentimental value. since im the only one that either of us knows that can translate i decided to help.
im not racist by any means, i used t live in mexico and prefer it and the people that live there to many that live here. but there is strong evidence that it was stolen by a resturant employee, and 3 of the employees there, includinig 2 managers know that it was a friends bike and would not have touched it... as did most of the serving staff thorugh conversatoin,
"in times of widespread chaos and confusion, it has been the duty of more advanced human beings - artists, scientists, clowns, and philosophers - to create order. In such times as ours however, when there is too much order, too much m management, too much programming and control, it becomes the duty of superior men and women and women to fling their favorite monkey wrenches into the machinery. To relieve the repression of the human spirit, they must sow doubt and disruption"
"People do it every day, they talk to themselves ... they see themselves as they'd like to be, they don't have the courage you have, to just run with it."
