Wood substrate okay here?
    #4684479 - 09/20/05 12:29 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Sorry...this is a cross-post.  I know.
I'm wondering if these wood shavings/planings are suitable for wood lovers?  Do I need to add chips or sawdust?  These curls of wood are fairly firm when dry.  Thanks for any help.

Chips would help a lot. Is that hardwood?

Yeah.

Woodchips would give it a bit of structure for the myc to run through?

And I just saw some "hardwood bark mulch" in bags at a local store.  Don't know if that would work, though.

I think the fleet store here has sawdust blocks...I might just get some hardwood chips (and pay a bit) to break up the substrate.

What volume ratio would you suggest, of chips to the planings pictured, for reishi?

Thanks very much, RR.  You're a huge help.
