Iraq: Months from absolute chaos?
    #4683977 - 09/19/05 10:58 PM (12 years, 3 days ago)

Well shit is really starting to hit the fan over in Iraq. Al Zarqawi has declared an all out brawl on Shiites Wednesday that has left close to 300 people dead so far. Massive amounts of deadly suicide attacks and assassinations of high profile iraqi officials.

Zarqawi today posted a message to make peace with followers of Al-Sadr's Mahdi miltia and any other shiite opposed to the U.S. Occupation with hopes of driving a rift of shiites further engulfing to a civil war.

Than to make matters worse the British storm a prison in Basra releasing 2 britons and the people are incredibly angry.

What is going to happen in 6 months?

according to some smart sounding types on NPR the other day, iraq is basically in civil war already. and it'll only get worse until the country is broken up into three seperate states.

It will never happen. They are not fighting over ideals or religion, they are fighting for the oil fields. The real oil is only concentrated in a small part of the country and the rest is a wasteland. For some reason, this reality is rarely acknowledged.

i disagree catalysis, i believe it basically is civil war, now theyre not only attacking us, theyre attacking their own people, the ones that want us there because they want freedom and more religious freedom also, that sounds like any other civil war in my idea, granted oil plays a part in this, but i feel religion is the underlined problem, three groups cant agree on one ideal

and looner, i have no problem with arabs killing arabs, but that was happening BEFORE we were there, and it wouldve still been happening had we not, the only difference is now there are americans dying along side them.

That can be anyones guess but I don't see how anything is going to improve over there. The country will continue to slide more and more into a shithole and support for the war here at home will continue to erode. I would like to see the reconstruction of Iraq handed over to the U.N. entirely and we need to make an exit as soon at the first chance we get. The whole thing is just sad.
