fast growth

I inoculated my new set 9 days ago, and (happily enough), one of the B+ jars is growing explosively. I can't really think of what I did differently with it, so it must have been luck or something. Anyway, it's been barely a week and this jar is totally covered on the sides and it's about half-covered on the bottom. Beautiful white mycelium, too.

My question is, I've never had one grow this fast before. After the bottom gets covered, how long do I give it to colonize the interior before I birth it?

One week^^^^

Rapid growth is a sign of optimum conditions. Your water content and such may be near perfect in that jar.

What substrate are you using?. I too have just innoculated some jars with B+ (PF TEK) and have already gotten growth after 2 days. Good Luck.

BRF. This is my second attempt, followed the PF tek a lot closer this time and colonization is going much better in all jars. It's just that one that's, well, amazing.

This is just one of my personal opinions so take it or leave it.

When I innoculate jars I inject in the centre AS WELL as the sides which I find cuts out the 1 week wait after colonization of the outside of the jar.

Alot of people agree with me.

Try it & see !

I have to agree that the explosive growth is caused by optimal conditions. Following the PF recipe, the biggest factor concerning colonization speed is how densely packed the substrate is. BTW, 1/4 pints are much easier to keep from getting dense towards the bottom of the jar. I have some 1/4 pints creeper and huatlas that were inoculated 1/16 and should be ready for birthing on or before 1/23. I also did 1/2 pints and they are moving along very fast as well. I'd project that they will be ready by 1/30. I do not tamp my substrate down at all, in fact there are rather visible air gaps in there but I have discovered that my colonization times are the fastest this way.

makes sense that more substrate or packed down subtrate would take longer to colonize, but then wouldnt u also have a more stable dense cake if it was slightly packed together.? i've been advised to not tap down the jars so i would recommend the same. Best of luck

Awesome! I inoculated 5 jars with B+ 3 days ago and 4/5 already have very noticeable growth around injection point.

The 12 hawaiian I did about 8 hours later the sameday dont have much noticeable growth yet.
