my cat is sick... need advice
    #4682275 - 09/19/05 02:07 PM (18 years, 6 months ago)

hey guys.

My cat seems mostly healthy, but every once and a while he starts gagging violently and making this wierd noise. Its like hes trying to get out a hairball, but nothing comes out. I have fed him vaseline and felaxin which is recomended for hairball removal, and hes gotten out some huge hairballs, but then he keeps doing it even after, making me think its not hairballs at all.

Anyways if any one has any idea what this could be or how i can help it that would be awesome.

Thanks

peace

heres the thing. i called the vet and told him what the deal was, and he recomended taking him in for a checkup. However he also said he probably wouldnt be able to tell me whats wrong with him, and a checkup costs $60... which doesnt seem like a very good deal...

As other people have said, being a pet owner comes with responsibilities and you should really take you cat to the vet. I don't condone following internet medical advice for your cat any more than I would for you. However I can probably tell you what the vet will say, for free.

Get a brush, brush your cat when he needs it. Some cats like being brushed, some don't. If he doesn't at first, get him used to it when he's already happy and relaxed.

Feed him high quality hairball control cat food. Science Diet, Eukanuba, Iams, Pro Plan, etc. You may have to go to a Petco or Petsmart instead of the supermarket.

If he's still exhibiting the same symptoms after two weeks or if they get any worse, take him to the vet right away!

Hope this helps,

-Y
