vermiculite on top of ur cakes?

Most of the guides on this site say to lay the cakes directly onto a layer of perlite or onto a rack inside ur terrarium. I just received a small grow kit in the mail which included most of the tools needed to start growing and for their grow guide everything was mostly the same as u would read on this site EXCEPT that they say to put a 1/2" layer of vermiculite inbetween the cake and the jar lid and also on top of the cake. So basically ur cake is sandwiched. What do u guys think? also does it matter which way the cake is placed (upside down or right side up)? and for the last question, if u decide to place ur cakes onto the perlite layer, should u put something inbetween such as a jar lid.... thanx for all ur help. I should be beginning to grow in the next week or so .

It's so much better to not follow a kit, and DIY. But anyway, Yes it does make sense to put vermiculite on tope and bottom, but consider dunking and rolling first. This will increase yields. After the cakes are completely colonized, place them in an air tight container filled with distilled water. Leave them there for 24 hours. After that, take them out, and roll them in dry vermiculite. Remember to observe sterility. Then place them on the jar lid which is then placed on the perlite. =) -Jabber

when I put my cakes on the perlite they weren't pinning and someone told me to put them on the lids and they pinned within a day. you could put them on the perlite for a day or so between flushes.

And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it's very brightly coloured and it's very loud and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time and they begin to question, is this real, or is this just a ride? And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, "Hey - don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because, this is just a ride... And we... kill those people. - Bill Hicks

Just don't put them on the perlite. It's easily avoidable. So just don't do it at all. Just my opinion (onion).

thats double end casing and yeah it will work just like you described. dunking and rolling and then doing that will give you a better outcome for sure. best of luck

awesome thanks guys. One more question...i searched about flushes and didnt find my answer which is funny cause its a broad question but ... whats the secret to flushes? I got the idea of it but dont really know the process. After your first flush looks to be done...what then? re-hydrate the cake or...? like i said i couldnt really piece it together. Thanks again -Mark
