Does BLUE light really affect pinning and growth???
    #4680881 - 09/19/05 05:08 AM (11 years, 2 months ago)

actually purple would be better
it is the true color of the sky
it only looks blue because you are a human and you dont have the spectral selectivity to see that "color"

But yes blue light does promote pinning and growth

different wavelengths affect different things different ways
blue is a high energy wavelength and could have a different effect than say red

i know how different wavelengths affect plants but i'm not sure about fungus

if it is true
then that is why

Many cultivated mushrooms require light for pinhead initiation and proper development of the fruit-body. In fact, such phototropic mushroom actually twist and turn towards a light source, especially if is dim and distant in an otherwise darkened room. Consequently, it is important to equip the growing room with a lighting system that provides even illumination to all areas levels.

The best type of light tube is one that which most closely resembles natural outdoor light: i.e. one that has at least 140 micro-watts per 10 nanometer per lumen of blue spectra (440-495 nm).

So your looking for a light with color temperature between 6500 K and 5500 K. These color temperatures provide the proper amount of blue light for promoting primordial formation in Pleurotus ostreatus, Psilocybe cubensis, and in other photosensitive species.

I am pretty sure no one here has personally tested it, but it may be possible that with a strictly red light they may not pin at all, would be interesting to find out, but i use a flourescent and that is high in blue and it works.

Red or Green light spectrum doesn't initiation and the developpement of the fruit-body. According to TMC

I guess they tested this.

What do you mean? So red light does or doesn't help pin initiation according to TMC?

It will encourage healthy growth, color and direction of the fruits. If your light source is only visible from the left side of a tub your fruits stems will grow in that direction.

This thread has been closed.

Reason:
I doubt that was important enough to bump a thread that died six years ago.  Besides, mushrooms don't want blue light.  They want light in the blue spectrum.
