Isn't the magic in us? Like drugs are peak experiences making manifestation stronger because of the energetic level, or presence?

What is magick my Zen friend? How does it differ from anything that you are doing right now. I will cast a spell now and see if you will obey.

occult = hidden, occluded; secret knowledge - someone else knows and you are supposed to ask. (it is a control issue and a pyramid game)

there is magic in everything - of that you are aware: just study everything you can. that is the meaning of light, shine your light on things and they are out of the hidden category.

just don't spend money on things with "occult" labels on them - it is like old ladies going to seances to contact dead rich relatives.

Occult is far too nebulous a word. Very High teachings can be occulted - even Biblical sayings attributed to Jesus, but definately extra-Biblical sayings attributed to Jesus.

There is High Magick and low magick (sorcery, witchcraft). High Magick is built into Kabbalism and the Sacrament of Transubstantiation in Catholicism. Even Aleister Crowley's Magick was based on Kabbalistic attainment (which I am studying from a mature perspective, having abandoned anything related to Crowley decades ago because I only saw something sinister).

It is very easy to become trapped and lost in magickal systems thinking they are somehow divine when they are from the mind of men. Or, one can become entirely misled with a belief in the acquisition of 'powers,' such as a misguided approach to Yoga one sometimes hears about (from Ram Dass or Bhagwan Dass). Just as in unguided practice of Kundalini Yoga, Western Magickal practices are known to result in mental illness, so dangers around occult practices East and West are very real. Being attracted to 'circles and sigils,' as was Goethe's Faust, was the beginning of his ruination, so approach with the right intention. A scholarly approach is usually best IMO.

the tarot (Rider Waite version) is an excellent example of a useful exposed occult.

each card is connected to every other one in a way that is very clever and useful in perceiving connectedness and totality.

I agree with MarktheGnostic that it is easy to become trapped in details. much of what is hidden, you already know on some level, it is more a matter of connectedness than details in this area of "knowledge". go for totality not for detail

Markos and redgreen, I have to find out, if the Arkanes of Tarot (especially Rider Waite) are correctly placed on the kabbalistic 'paths' between the spheres (of the tree of life). I have an assignement, that is different and works like heaven (it was found by a so called  Society of the Inner Light  (founded by Dion Fortune), I think, as it was written in a book from a cleric of those) Right now, I am about to study the hebrew 'letters' to get more clues...

hang loose blue, the pieces have to fit together naturally and easily, tarot is not worth getting into knots.
the hebrew letters and numerology are neat little connection wormholes between the cards, (not really logic, but associative short cuts)
the idea is that be able to take in the whole card as a meaning bouquet and to allow it to connect with the other cards, and so to reconnect the whole deck.
to make a circle - tarot is rota(t) a circle of images

I like Crowleys deck. It works so well for me.

it is more spectacular, but it encourages fewer clear connections.

what i never liked about astrology, tarot and such is that there is no backlash for false and incorrect "telling". If you are a human, you are inevitably going to deal with currency (or barter), death, love, happiness, friends, sadness and sex. All anyone has to do is give a general enough statement about any of these topics and almost everyone can relate their experiences to it.
i feel it is also an absolvment, in some way, of responsibility, as if your "destiny" is controlled by something other than you.

For me the tarot has never fortold anything. It helps me focus on things I want to think about and that is all. Of course I am a rank amature. But that works for me.
