H2O2 and Casing
    #467921 - 11/23/01 10:57 PM (22 years, 3 months ago)

With all this talk about hydrogen peroxide and agar I began to wonder: could I use the chemical to reduce contamination with casings? Next time I case my portobello cakes I'm going to include H2O2 in the underlying vermiculite and the top casing material. Damn, I love experimenting. I'll keep you posted.

Has anyone had any luck with a similar idea before?

Look at my "peroxide pasteurization" in the experimenting forum, over at myco-elite.com. I have included my own experiences with compost, it will work the same with most casing materials. Register a name and post what you think while your over there.

AFOAF recently completely saved a mature, cobweb mold-infested cake with a dunk treatment of hydrogen peroxide and water... the cake had flushed 3 times prior to the infection, and is going on a nice 5th flush now... Later!

Mix a 5-10% solution of 3% H2O2 to water and use this to mix your casing. It will drastically reduce contaminants.
