Speeding up inoculation
    #4678116 - 09/18/05 05:53 PM (11 years, 2 months ago)

Using the vermiculite, brown rice flour, and water method, is there any way to speed up inoculation. Cake is being kept in pure darkness in about 75 or less degree Farenheight temperature. (Wild bird seed? Heard somethin about it, not quite sure on what to do with it though)

wow....ok...

1) You need to up your temperatures a bit. 82 is optimal. Have you ever heard of Tub In Tub? Look in the archives.

2) Wild Bird Seed has nothing to do with what you are doing.

3) How long has it been since you inoculated? Sometimes it takes 2+ weeks to see any signs.

4) Once you start seeing signs of colonziation, you can take the tape and foil off the lids and flip the jars upside down so they rest on the lids.

Other than that, thats all you can do.

Tokey

All ya need to do is raise the temps up to 82-84F this is optimal. Also if you have tape over the holes remove it. GL and Welcome

Wait, if you flip the jars upside down, won't the holes just be covered up?

The object of flipping the jars upside down is so the CO2 is pushed out of the jar. If they are on a total flat surface, you can place a toothpick under each of them to make sure they get air. Or, I use a piece of chicken wire to keep them off the ground.

just to make it super obvious if he didn't get it, it should have been colonization, not inoculation

After inocculation, all I did was leave the holes uncovered, and they're rightside up, eventually I'm going to put tooth picks under them, and flip em upside down, but is it ok to just leave the holes uncovered for now?
