Casing Confusion - please help...
    #4677364 - 09/18/05 01:14 PM (11 years, 2 months ago)

im tying to figure out why im not getting fruit after birthing my casings. i think it has to do with the humidity in my terrarium. Stamets says to have it 95-100% until pinning, while other teks say that if you live in a humid area, you may not have to do much at all for the casings. The vegetative growth just wont stop... and all my casings are just getting overlay, very frustrating. any insight?
also, is misting necessary? i tried not misting and misting but no results...

Sounds like a temp. prob if it just keeps growing. Whats your temp? Yeah you need to mist and air circulation also plays a very important role in pinning.

i thought that temp might be a problem, im around 81-85... too high, but i dont know of any good teks for lowering temp if you live i a hot place, ive started to put ice cold water in my cool mist, but its too soon to say if thats going to work...

yeah man i'd say thats the prob, those are optimal spawn run temps. Crank the ac or something. Get it down to 70-75 and i guarantee it'll pin. Keep up the misting and fanning too.

Definatly lower that temp. 81-85 is not a good pinning temp. Try to lower the temp 10 deg. Once your pin set is estabished you can go back to 80 or so. you could also try and cold shock it for an evening.
As for the overlay, are you shure its overlay? and not just colinized casing material.

Freezing some 2 liter bottles full of water and rotating them can bring temps down in my martha, so if you're using a rubbermaid for a terrarium, they should work good until you can find a more permanent solution.

I also heard that inadequate light can cause problems with pinning. Check out that as well.

When I did my first casing i got extreme overlay, B+ strain, I live in a relatively humid area and just left the tub it was in open for a day and it wasnt long before i got pins.
