substrate sterilization

afoaf tried to sterilize his jars with the boiling steam method. the problem is that many of the cakes became waterlogged and very heavy in comparison to when they were put in. also, the cakes that look good also feel heavy as though they too are waterlogged. it's hard to recall whether this foaf has inoculated heavy cakes so I was wondering what can be done to refine the easy method that was fucked up quite easily. reduce the time in the pots? cover the jars with something else? any help/clarification is appreciated.

well, a lot of people tape the holes of their jars, then cover the top of the jar with foil. You need to explain more as to how your jars were setup.

It sounds like water is definitely getting in your jars.

I usually just tape the holes of my jars and pc and never have problems. You may have too much water in your pot. You don't want to submerge the jars.

Explain how you are doing it, ie jar setup and amount of water in the pot, and you'll be able to get a better answer.
