Appalled at the closed-mindedness of some people...
    #4676703 - 09/18/05 05:11 AM (11 years, 6 months ago)

This is really unfortunate; had this AIM conversation with another non-Shroomery forum member:

[01:28] Me: what do you know about drugs?
[01:28] Person: no kidding
[01:29] Person: a good bit... never used anything but i know a good bit
...
[01:32] Me: tell me, whats your take on psilocybn cubensis
[01:34] Person: its a fungs ... thats enough to make me stay away from it
...
[02:07] Me: do you think you are open minded?
[02:07] Me: its okay if you dont think you are, thats not a problem at all
[02:07] Person: i do
[02:07] Me: so, would you try psychedelics?
[02:08] Person: more then likely no
[02:08] Me: given a comfortable atmosphere with people who you are at ease with
[02:08] Me: and why is that?
[02:08] Me: give me your top 3 reasons
[02:08] Person: couldnt even tell you where to get them
[02:08] Person: dont want to waste money
[02:08] Person: its illegal
[02:08] Me: is that your #1? list them #1 #2 #3
[02:08] Person: i can give tons of reasons
[02:09] Me: well i just want to hear your top 3 reasons
[02:09] Person: i dont have a top 3
[02:09] Me: well, you should have some that are more important than others
[02:09] Person: im sure there are
[02:10] Person: the illegal one is good, the fact that i could get kicked out of school is good, the fact that i could have a heart attack or toher reaction if i use them is good
[02:10] Me: well i want to hear yours
[02:10] Me: okay, thanks for your input then

This was after an hour-long chat about it. There's more but I just got frustrated talking with him. I promised myself I'd never try to talk about this stuff with non-drug users again, but sometimes I can't help myself.

Seems like a pointless conversation.

What it boils down to is that they have a lot of opinions and no thoughts. In other words, all of their motivation for having the type of relationship they have to drugs is from things they've heard or read. They're not interested in following what they want to do because their arguments for not using drugs have nothing to do with their emotional or intuitive states. And that, my friend, is the naivity of rational thought...unfortunately rational thought is given shitloads of credit and is considered free from all influence (which it obviously isn't). But as I said, opinions say nothing of one's desires, they state the LAW that one lives by when insecure.

So how about people doing drugs because they want to, because life wouldn't be worth living without having done them?
And how about not doing drugs because life would have been less good for trying them?
...or we can stick to B.S. one-liners and all that preformulated crap and hide from the impending reality...

yeah, it sucks but there are a hell of a lot of people with views like this. there's no point in getting into time consuming arguments with them though. if they want to see differently then they will on their own time.

This argument took place in a public forum, he was spreading lies and myths. The very thing the shroomery was created to stop. I argued for so long so people would know that he was full of shit and new nothing about drugs so the wouldnt take his info as true. :mushroom2:

Perhaps his ego is afraid of the truth being revealed to him, forcing him to have to make difficult changes in his thinking and in his life.

Nah. He couldn't possibly fathom the thought of an ego, or what a trip could even be like. He's just ignorant, imo. It's best to just leave those people to their own devices.

Pretty busy . Between four technical classes and two one-unit electives, building a racecar, searching for internships, possibly double majoring, trying to get into shape, and trying to keep up with my piano practice, you can guess I have my hands pretty full with work. But the stuff I'm learning is rather amazing (math and engineering and whatnot) so I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Being able to complete something that at first seemed impossible is a great feeling and is probably what fuels my motivation.

I like your new avatar, Skorp. Haven't talked to you in a while; we should catch up some time.
