Refining Poo and straw for pasteurization

Would it be necessary to remove all the larger peices of hay from the poop? theres some bigger chunks of vegetive matter in the poo that was pulled up along with the poo. im worried about these other weeds being prone to contamination. i was thinking of crumbling it down in a rubbermaid and removing anything longer than 3 inches.
while we're on the subject of likely contam causers, i remembered hearing a while back that you should remove all of the, hmmmm, i dunno what the technical name for it is. durrrr at the end of some of the peices of straw, the grain is still in tact, like the thrasher machine didnt remove it. is that true that these cause contams? ive heard nothing of them since. worried i might be wasting a lot of time as it makes the whole straw prep process that much more arduous. could i skip this step and just chop everything up really good?
what do you guys do? if youve tried w/ and w/o, what were the results?

I'm assuming your talking about horse poo and not cow poo. You just want to break up the nuggets. You don't need to remove any "hay" like material from it unless it just bothers you. I'm not too sure what you are talking about that causes contams, I've never heard of anything like it, but if you pasturize the poo properly, you should be OK.

Like I said, you're the first person I've ever heard ask about that If you have the means, I would highly recommend horse poo over cow poo for ease of use.

cow poo needs to have something added to it to fluff it up some, just straight cow poo is pretty dense, so either chop up some straw and add it in or mix in some vermiculite. fooman is telling you straight up though about the h poo, good stuff if you can get that instead.
