Shulgin on tryptamine addition / DMT addition

A while ago I e-mailed "Ask Dr Shulgin" about the indolic 4-hydroxylation of n,n,-DMT by mycelia to form 4-HO-DMT. He replied to me yesterday and here is what he said, just one excerpt.
Quote:
As to your interests in the mushrooms that love putting hydroxyl groups onto the four-position of indoles, are you aware of the research of the East German mycologist Jochim Gartz? He discovered that if he put synthetic (and legal) dialkyl trypamines into the mycelial broth of one of the Psilocybe mushrooms, it would be 4-hydroxylated and transported to the adult fruiting body. The products proved to be psychoactive and are not man made, and yet not really natural. Things like 4-hydroxy-N,N-diisoproipyltryptamine. Made by a mushroom, not a chemist! Check his publications in the scientific literature. A good man.
I replied asking him about saturation levels of tryptamines in substrates and i'm anxiously awaiting his return. He was in the hospital recently so I think any good healthy vibes we can send his way would be helpful.
In another e-mail from him he states that adding n,n,-DMT should produce the psilocin in the fruitbody. I think that I'm going to order a kilo or five of MHRB and get to work.

He's scheduled to speak at the medicinal mushroom conference next month in Washington State. I'll be there. Anyone else going? RR http://www.fungi.com/immc/index.html

Nah, I might try to go out and meet with him 1:1 and get some chemistry nerd talk going

while adding MHRB might be just as easy, where would one find this legal tryptamine?

could the adding of n,n DMT potentially cause a dangerous shift in the pH of the substrate?
what do you guys think would be the best way to administer extra tryptamines into the mycelium? dissolve into water and moisten soil? use the crystal form and disperse throughout the soil by mixing?

Seaweed is extremely high in natural tryptamines. I've noticed nothing but good from collecting seaweed on the beach and adding it to my compost recipie. Try it. RR

when you say seaweed, your referring to the stuff on the beach, or some special store-bought stuff? how is the store bought kelp related to the seaweed your referring to?

I dout that RR is talking about Kelp The fertilizer seaweed, ascophyllum nodosum, is a wounderfull addition to a compost pile, when using mushrooms to recycle the compost waste. Kelp contains Iodine 127 which prevents the body from absorbing the radioactive Iodine 131. In the wake of a nuclear disater, youll be glad youve eaten your Kelpcakes!

I'm sure the kelp you'd buy in a store would have all the same properties. Ditto for the dried seaweed you can get in asian food stores to wrap sushi with, although quite spendy. You can get a pickup load on the beach in an hour or two, provided one lives close to a coastline. RR

I think the stuff they wrap sushi with isn't seaweed. It's algae that's been pressed into sheets. I heard this on "good eats!"

I'm pretty sure it's seaweed.

I believe kelp and seaweed are synonomous. The long brown and green shit that washes up on beaches makes excellent additive to any substrate once you rinse it well and dry it. Chop it up like straw and add it to your compost or manure/straw recipie. Keep it to ten percent or less of the total. RR
