Pinning In Jars
    #4666073 - 09/15/05 06:25 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

My jars are pinning before they are fully colonized. What should I do? Should I take them out, and put them in the terrarium? Or, should I leave them in the jars and let them finish colonizing?

If they are pinning, they are fully colonized. Take them out and fruit them!

There is still a bunch of uncolonized substrate in the jars... should i still take them out?

That substrate probably has a moisture problem(too wet my guess but not 100% sure). If you do birth it you could always wash the uncolonized substrate off before you dunk and/or fruit it in the FC. You don't want uncolonized substrate exposed to the FC conditions all kinds of contaminates are bound to grow on it.

I AGREE WITH READY2GO...Remove the uncolonized substrate first, you dont want anything bacteria could grow on in you FC.

I would leave them in the jar and fruit them invitro. The shrooms will mature in about 5 days and hopefully in that time the rest of the jar will be colonised. You can then take them out, harvest and put them in the terranium, or back in the jar for more invitro flushes.

No, I didn't colonize them where they were getting any light. In fact, the container the jars were in is covered with navy blue cloth.

I would say that if you do birth it, go with what these guys are suggesting, cut the uncolonized sub off. I would put it in a clean FC after that and let it sit until, hopefully the area that isn't colonizing does. I wouldn't dunk yet because the sub that is exposed is much more susceptable to possible contams that could be introduced through the water than a fully colonized cake. Blackouts way would probably be the safest bet though, being that the jar will be in a sterile environment until you birth it.
