? Habitat (where [woods, pasture, state,province,country, altitude] and what [soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?)] does it grow on)
? New Mexico, Canyon, Cow Manure,
* Characteristics of the gills (color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc)
? Black
* Characteristics of the stem (length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc)
? Somewhat thick
* Characteristics of the cap (diameter,color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc)
? 1-2in
* Spore print color (very important!)
? blackish
* Color that the mushroom bruises
? darker
* Scent of the mushroom
? none?
* Anything else you might find important
? were found on cow patties

looks like inactive panaeolus species, possibly campanulatus?

i would say panaeolus sphinctrinus, but thats just what *I* call it.

yeah, someone really needs to lay down the law when it comes to naming that species. it's just mayhem. total mayhem.
anyway, so yeah, I found a lot of these recently. here are some pics.

the species is panaeolus sphinctrinus.
campatalanus is a variant therof.
saying "Panaeolus campatalanus" is like saying "amanita formosa" realistically they may not even be distinct variants, but mearly locally-abundant strains of genetically simmilar families of that species. the ranges overlap absolute.

one might argue that the many names for this speceis are redundant and that variants are merely the fancy of the observant.
