look at the recycling code (the number in the triangular arrows).. if it's a '5'.. then its okay to even pc it.. like the zip loc screw on containers and mayonaise jar lids

How did you get on? I want to use plastic jars as well. Did they stand up to steaming and everthing else work ok?

Hey, I'm using plastic jars right now, and because its plastic you have a great advantage, you don't have to boil them, just fill them up with brf mix (if you're caking) and nuke it in the micro for 5/7 min. try one jar at first if the lid melts (happened to me) just put nylon warp and the replace it with the lid cleaned well after the nuking. make sure you leave holes in the lids or the nylon for the steam to escape. after you took them out of the micro, put alu foil and tape it around (plastic don't have such a good seal).
I made 6 jars 3 weeks ago, 0 contams and almost fully colonized.
Good Luck !!!

I have 2 glass jars and 2 plastic ones colonising.
the plastic ones are way behind. Could have something to do with air exch. but for whatever reason they are definetely slower.

I asked about plastic jars once and was told they're bad because plastic breathes...but yefet2000 seems to be doing alright with 0 contams...good luck and post your results...Jarrod~

not entirely accurate, it depends on the type of plastic, those suitable for
this hobby are HDPP (high density polypropylene) and Polycarbonate (polymethylpentene)
both are autoclavable and though HDPP does technicaly 'breathe', it is more than
capable of filtering out any contaminants

Hey an update about my plastic jars.
as i told you i sterilized them in the micro. anyway they didn't contaminated but they stalled very early and went straight into the trash bin. I'm back with my Glass cups.
So my conclusion is - Use only designated plastic jars like the ones you can get from the suppliers or don't use plastic at all.
thats all.

Yefet2000... You now tell people not to use them at all because your "microwave sterilizing tek" didnt work... how does that mean that other sterilization teks wont make plastic usable?
