fruiting chamber not as transparent as others.... problem???
    #4661568 - 09/14/05 08:25 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

Ahoy there everybody. I am trying to be as stealthy as possible with this grow. I don't really have anywhere to HIDE my fruiting chamber in a good temperature range, so I purchased these. That way, they can be out in the open, but you can't see through them enough to see shroomies inside. BUT, they are translucent enough to let light through, just not the same amount as totally clear ones.

Well my question is, is indirect sunlight still going to be ok? Or should I have a fluorescent light running vertically along side them (they will be stacked.) I would prefer NOT to do it this route since a light would add suspicions, but still, I will if I have to.

Anyone else have tubs like these?
Thanks!

CANNIBAL CORPSE: BUTCHERED AT BIRTH .... thats the background on my cellphone... fuck yea

I am planning to use an air pump with perlite in the bottom for air, so I shouldnt have a problemo with humidity, just light.

Unfortunately, I don't have a sunny window in the room I will have these in. I have windows, but both have shade trees next to them.

You can string a small strand of christmass lights on the inside, if your gonna have a an air ppump hooked up, hiding a christmas tree light cord should be just as simple.

Interesting idea ready2go. How many light bulbs to you think should go inside? Do you use this method?

In that size bin 8-10 little blulbs should be plenty. I used it in a smaller bin I had at first, since then i have upgraded my FC. But none the less it works well

I would worry about a fire hazard with standard Christmas lights. I don't know how they would hold up in constant 95%+ humidity and dripping water from condensation over time. I think the type of decorative lights that come in the clear plastic tubing would be better suited for this purpose. I could be wrong. I know that most Christmas lights are meant to hang outdoors and withstand the elements, but hanging from your house is a little different from hanging in a fruiting chamber.

:2cents:

Not really if you get the small bulb lights that push in not screw in youll be fine. they emit minimal heat and they are weather proof. As for rope lights, you can use them and i'm sure they work fine but i know for a fact that they get hot and will effect your temp.

::ass2mouth::

christmas lights are made so that they can be covered in snow and ice without a problem
i wouldn't worry about it
just make sure no condesation is leaking down the cord and into the outlet

The christmas lights of today are not a fire hazard. they are virtually water proof. its a plastic to plastic seal and the high rh will not affect them

That's where the "I could be wrong" part of my statement came in  I'm no Christmas light expert, but aparently there's a few on here.

Wasn't yelling or anything just clarifying. Better to be sceptical and ask then to do it and f-up.
It's all good.

My comment was directed to alien zulu, not you ready2go. His addition of the :ass2mouth: seemed a little uncalled for IMO. Your statement was more stating the facts than trying to be a wise guy.

I'm just used to the old school Christmas lights that gave me headaches back in the day :smirk:

No harm, no foul :peace:

Yeah, most (but not all) lights will work. I use indirect sunlight myself.
