I inoculated 7 jars 7 days ago. Everything was going well until on the 4th day I discovered very small purple spots. At first I thought that it was just the light going through the mycellum and vermiculite and making a purple color but now on the 7th day it seems that the purple has turned in some places to pink and is growing bigger. I am pretty sure that it is some kind of mold.
I think it might have come from the syringes. Apparently they were around five years old and I don't really know anything about how they were kept or even if they were made in sterile conditions.
What I was wondering if I could birth them early and use them for moe's outdoor tek even though they are contaminated in hopes that them being put into the soil will kill the mold and let the mushroom live and it will continue to spawn and eventually fruit.
A little update, I just dug my outdoor patch and put all seven partially colonized jars in. I hope that there is enough mycelium to colonize the manure and hay and that it will be warm enough here for them to do well. About how far under the soil should the crumbled cakes be, and is it of if the soil covering the top of the patch is mostly manure with some loose leaves over it? Think it will work?
