So damn dry in Portland,OR!
    #4661041 - 09/14/05 06:07 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

I moved to portland about 6 months ago and when I got here it rained a lot. after I was all moved in it stopped raining and really hasn't rained at all since. I live in a building downtown and it is well landscaped. I was thinking maybe if I artificially water some of the woodchips around my building that I may see some growth? I know that there needs to be mycelium present so is this worth a shot or no? Also I bought a book by Stamets and it lists fall for the beginning of a lot of the growing for the mushrooms I seek. Is anyone familiar with when "Fall" begins in Portland. I consider fall right NOW but I'm from WI. Just seekin' Some answers. THANX

Answers to all your questions could be answered with only minutes of your own research on this site. Anyways, I assume your looking for cyanescens, as you are talking about woodchips. It's always worth a shot to turn on a sprinkler or a hose but I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you. It's still a little early for cyans. Liberties haven't even started yet (as far as I know). I would expect the earliest cyanescens to start popping up in early-mid October. Good luck and welcome to the Shroomery!

Water wont do much without the temps getting below 50 on a solid basis.

It could stimulate some nice myc growth and maybe help the fruiting process when the weather straightens out though, who knows.
