Any licensed pilots here?

Just wondering if any of our Shroomery members are (or ever were) licensed pilots? For years I've said I would like to have a pilots license. Recently I have started to seriously consider flight school again. I'm even considering becoming a lisenced helicopter pilot as well as fixed wing.
I've been doing research on the subject lately and I'm getting that itch again. I had it bad a few years ago but I wasn't in a position financially to do it. Now I'm starting to want it again and I just might be able to make it happen this time.
So, does anyone in this community have any experience in this or am I on my own here?

Why? Are you assuming that they would be on drugs while flying?

No.
I'm assuming they would be complete idiots who lack the ability to use basic punctuation and grammar.
Much like the average poster here at the shroomery.

Yeah, seems like a funny place to troll for pilots!
But honestly, I'd trust a lot of the people here with my life before some of the fools I've met who do have a pilots lisence! Were talking private pilots here, not people doing it for a living.

Oh, and just as a sidenote, a statistic I learned while in Alaska... 1 in 12 Alaskan residents is a lisenced pilot. How many of them do you think smoke?

Don't potential pilots get asked during the screening process if they have taken any psychedelics?

Yeah, I always wondered if all my years of running equipment would leave me better prepared to learn to fly? I am right at home at the controls of a piece of machinery and I always thought of an aircraft as just another machine. But who knows until you try.

Hey you ride a motorcycle on the street also! Lots of pilots ride bikes and say its just as mentally challenging especially on the track! just with less buttons and gauges you know

I'm working towards a career in aviation at this moment, so maybe I can help. What are your goals, are you mainly interested in getting a single engine rating to rent a plane and fly around on those lazy Sundays, or are you looking beyond that? There are a multitude of ratings you can go for, depending on what you want to do. Private license, instrument rating, multi engine rating, commercial license, flight instructor license, and airline transport pilot.
Flying is fairly easy actually, it's the ground school that can be grueling. Also, especially with gas prices today, obtaining these ratings on your own is very expen$ive. If you're coordinated and "at home" with vehicles, equipment, etc., and you can handle the classroom time, then flying is definitely something you will dig.
Here's a site I recommend that covers everything you need to know from private all the way up to air transport pilot:

Coincidentaly, I've been shopping planes also.
I figure I can score a nice older Cessna 172 for around 30K. But then the problem is maintinence and storage. Thats where the real money comes along!
But fuck it, its only money. You can't take it with you so why not spend it on things you love along the way. After all, how fucking cool would it be to own your own plane!!

My goals for fixed-wing would be specifically for my own benefit. Single-engine private use stuff.
If I decide to go with a helicopter lisence I'd keep at it all the way to a CFII rating. Seems like it could actually become a career I would enjoy. Spend some time as an instructor to build hours and eventually go on to commercial work.
Oh, and thanks for the link. Thats a site I hadn't seen yet.

I've always wanted to have a pilots licensee but I never exactly knew what was required. Thanks HolyDiver for that link, you caught me on a day when I actually have a moment of free time! haha
